Seniors Hub COVID-19 Resources

In March 2020 we launched a “Safe Seniors Strong Communities” (SSSC) initiative which recognizes the need for additional supports for seniors who are self-isolating during COVID-19. South Vancouver Neighbourhood House and the Better at Home program are a designated community response “Hub” in South Vancouver and are working with dedicated partner organizations including: Marpole Oakridge Family Place, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Seniors Alliance, ASK Friendship Society and Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society who are now delivering SSSC services.

We are working together to provide help with:

  • Grocery shopping
  • Check-in Wellness calls
  • Virtual Friendly Visits
  • Friendly phone calls
  • Prescription pick-up and delivery.
  • Delicious and nutritious affordable frozen meals that can be delivered to senior’s homes.

Emergency COVID-19 response services are by donation; however, some fees, such as the cost of meals ($6.00 per meal), medications and groceries are the responsibility of the participant. All these services are available for anyone over the age of 65 so please reach out to us if you need support and share this information with friends and neighbours so they too know that we are here to help!

Volunteers who support the initiative receive training are adhering to the Ministry of Healthy COVID-19 health and safety protocols to ensure that seniors remain safe while being supported.

Any senior in need of support, or volunteers interested in helping are encouraged to connect with bc211 by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting the website www.bc211.ca to register or they can call us directly at (604) 324-6212. bc211 is a confidential, multilingual telephone service and operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

COVID-19 Vaccine for Seniors

The members of the South Vancouver Seniors Hub Council voted unanimously in favour of endorsing the COVID vaccine for seniors. Seniors are very vulnerable to the Corona virus and many have become seriously ill or have died during this pandemic. The vaccine has been tested many times and has been proven safe and very effective. We strongly encourage everyone but especially seniors to have the vaccine. This is for your safety and the safety of others.   Please visit B.C.’s COVID-19 Immunization Plan to keep up to date on the latest information on vaccine roll-out.
